Attending a friend's wedding can be an exciting experience. It's enjoyable to sit and see people exchange their vows and share their love for one another. If you have been invited to a wedding, you probably know it is proper etiquette to bring a wedding gift. You may be unsure about what you should bring. Here are some tips for figuring out the best wedding present to give.
Check the Registry
It may sound obvious, but checking the wedding registry is a great jumping-off point when trying to find the perfect gift. The vast majority of couples will have at least one wedding registry, and it will probably be listed on the wedding invitation. If you are unsure, you can ask the couple where they are registered and they will be happy to tell you. Needless to say, getting something off of the wedding registry will likely be a hit considering the couple picked it out for themselves. However, you may be feeling stuck because everything is out of your price range or maybe you simply want to do something a little different. Even if you don't plan on buying something from the registry, looking at it can be a good idea for two reasons.
- It gives you a chance to see what kind of theme the couple has planned for decorating their house.
- It gives you a good idea of what the couple needs.
Getting a look at the registry can help give you a better idea of what the couple is looking for. However, if you are going to purchase something not on the registry, try to avoid getting something similar but a different brand or different color. Oftentimes, couples have done research or have picked out a specific blender or coffee maker because they like the specific features, user ratings, or color theme. To get something different may be giving the couple something other than what they really wanted.
Consider a Wedding Gift Card
Maybe you don't have time to go shopping or want the couple to be able to go pick out some things on their own. Many people feel this way, which is why cash and gift cards are so common at weddings. Almost every newlywed couple could use some money, whether it's for the honeymoon, to pay a few bills, or to stock up on supplies for their new home. Cash is great because it can be used anywhere at any time. Gift cards are a nice way to add a little bit of personalization to the present. Purchasing a gift card at the store where the couple is registered is a nice option, or maybe you know a specific place they will love.
Give From the Heart
Many worry their gift will not be good enough. The good news is most married couples aren't going to sit there and analyze what you gave them and whether or not it met their expectations. If you want to give something from the heart, then do it. This is a great way to show you put thought into your present and care about the couple. For example, you might keep the wedding invitation and other souvenirs from the events leading up to the wedding and put them into a shadow box. This is a good option because it doesn't cost a whole lot of money but will likely mean a great deal to the couple.
Try not to stress when trying to come up with a wedding gift. Most likely, the couple mainly cares about whether or not you are able to attend their wedding. You don't necessarily have to give them something from the registry, and giving a gift card or cash is perfectly acceptable. Take the pressure off yourself and just get the couple something you know they will love.
