Honeymoons can be pricey. However, there are some easy ways to cut costs.

While you are likely excited to get married to the love of your life, you may also be feeling a bit stressed out. After all, wedding planning takes a lot of time, energy, and money, and it can be overwhelming. You may be looking forward to when the wedding day is over.

Once your wedding day has passed, you will hopefully be embarking on your honeymoon. Whether you have something nearby planned or are going somewhere on the other side of the world, you will likely remember it as one of the most wonderful times of your life. However, you may be concerned if your funds are low. You don't want to start your marriage being in too much debt, but you also want to have a memorable experience with your new spouse. The good news is there are some things you can do to have an inexpensive yet amazing honeymoon.

Drive to Your Destination

If you are looking for a way to save some money, you could drive to your destination instead of flying on an airplane. This can save you a great deal of money, especially if your destination is somewhat close. A bonus is it can add another element to your honeymoon experience. Road trips are a great way for people to get to know each other better, and they can spark some great conversations. These talks would be difficult to have on an airplane full of people. Additionally, driving to your destination will take more time than flying there, so you will be able to fill that time with conversations, games, and laughter. Another bonus is you can take detours to check out other destinations while you are on your way to your location.

Put Honeymoon on Your Registry

While most people think of a wedding registry as a way to get much-needed essentials for the house, it can also be a way to get money for your honeymoon. There are websites specifically designed for this. It may seem tacky to you, but people understand the importance of a honeymoon and will likely be happy to contribute to it. Who knows, you may find a wealthy relative who would be willing to pay for the entire thing. Even if you aren't so lucky, you can likely knock a good chunk of money off the cost by doing this.

Stay in the Country

Of course, this is pretty obvious, but it's still worth mentioning. Staying in the country will save you money on things like travel, currency exchanges, souvenirs, and cab fares. This is especially true if you drive to your destination as mentioned above. You will have to pay for gas, of course, but this will likely be only a small percentage of what you would pay flying to another part of the world.

Find the Right Hotel Price

A lot of the money will go into finding the right hotel for the right price. Sure, you probably don't want to stay at the cheapest motel you can find, but you can locate great deals in several ways.

  • Look at online websites that can find you rock-bottom prices.
  • Request a room that does not have a view.
  • Book your hotel in advance.
  • Don't order room service.
  • Choose a different place to eat your meals, unless of course the meals are complimentary.

These things can save you a significant percentage on your hotel costs.

Newlywed Discounts

Sometimes, people will offer things for free if you simply tell them you are newly married. This applies to hotels and restaurants. There are no guarantees, but it definitely doesn't hurt to slip this information in to the receptionist or to your server.

Honeymoons can be pricey. However, costs can be cut significantly by applying some of these tips.
