No marriage is perfect. No matter how much two people love each other, every marriage is going to go through ups and downs. There may even be times when you're wondering whether you made the right decision by marrying the person you did. There are times when these feelings are just a result of high emotions and will blow over after the problem is resolved. But what happens when you are truly worried about your relationship?
Maybe the two of you don't spend as much time together as you used to, or your spouse is acting particularly suspicious and irritable. These signs may make you suspect that your spouse is cheating on you. Cheating is a very serious thing and can lead to divorce and other problems. While the only way you are going to find out for sure whether or not your spouse is cheating on you is by getting proof, here are some signs that some extracurricular activity may be going on.
Unexplained Absences
Of course, if your spouse is disappearing for hours at a time with no real explanation as to where he or she is going, there's a pretty clear sign something isn't right. Whether or not he or she is cheating, you should try to find out what's going on. Communication and honesty are both very important parts of a marriage, so you should know where your spouse is. Does this mean you should know where your spouse is every moment of every day? No, but you should know where he or she is if dinner is being missed or if the absences are starting to affect the family.
Acting Very Private
Oftentimes, cheating starts in the form of texts or explicit photos. This may lead a cheating spouse to be more careful about where he or she is leaving his or her phone. If your husband comes home from work and doesn't let his phone out of his sight no matter what, it may just be because he is a private person. However, if this is happening suddenly, this could be a sign that there's something on his phone that he doesn't want you to see. Of course, deleting texts and photos is very easy, so just because you don't find anything on his phone when you do get your hands on it doesn't mean there is nothing going on. Then again, don't let your suspicions make you automatically believe something is going on when you don't have solid proof.
Your Sex Life Changes
There are many reasons a couple goes through changes in sex life. Kids, jobs, and stress can all lead to people feeling less like being intimate with each other. However, if your wife is starting to withdraw from you and not want any physical contact, you should find out what's going on. It could be something as simple as her not feeling great about her body and not wanting you to see her. On the other hand, it could be because she's sleeping with someone else. Again, this isn't the conclusion you should jump to, but it is important to know why these things are happening so that you know whether or not there really is cause for concern.
What to Do
If more than one of these signs is happening in your marriage, then there's a chance that your spouse could be cheating. This is especially true if there's no explanation for the things mentioned above:
- Disappearing for long periods of time with little explanation
- Acting very private and secretive, always keeping his or her phone nearby
- A lack of physical intimacy
If you feel confident that your spouse is cheating, you may consider confronting him or her. You need to find out whether or not your suspicions are correct so that you can evaluate what your next steps should be.
