Getting Remarried After DivorceNobody enjoys getting divorced. It's a very emotionally draining process and one that can cost a lot of money as well. It can be stressful breaking ties with the person you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with. Still, as stressful as it may be, divorce happens. It is estimated that 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce. Because of this, it's no surprise that many people are on their second or third marriage.

If you are divorced, you may be worried about what others will think when you tell them you are engaged again. You may also be worried that since your first marriage failed, this one is doomed to fail as well. However, there are many reasons why one should consider getting married again after a divorce.

You're Not Doomed to Fail

There are many reasons why divorce happens. Perhaps there was abuse in the relationship, or maybe someone was unfaithful. Perhaps it was something as simple as the two of you weren't in love anymore. Whatever the reason, it's important to remember that just because your first marriage didn't last doesn't mean you will never find the right person for you. The person who you are marrying now is not the person you married the first time. They are likely very different people, which means your marriage will likely be completely different.

It's Good for You

In general, people are happier when they are with other people. We aren't meant to be loners. You will likely find that you are much happier when you are with someone you love. Granted, it needs to be a marriage that is going well and one in which both are mutually invested in the relationship. When you are in a healthy marriage, you will have someone you can talk to, someone who can help you work through your problems or comfort you when you are feeling down. You will be able to do this for your partner as well.

Cleaning Up Baggage from Divorce

Sometimes, a marriage doesn't work because one of you has too much baggage. Perhaps one of you had to deal with a traumatic life event that made it hard to focus on a relationship. Maybe you have baggage from your previous marriage that you need to take care of. When you and your partner address your issues before getting married, you are much more likely to stay married. Hiding this from each other is a bad idea for two reasons. First of all, hiding something from your spouse can lead to a lack of trust, and also, it's important for you to face your own demons. Sources of baggage can be:

  • Financial
  • Emotional
  • Prior relationships

Holidays Are Easier

Let's face it, holidays are much easier when we don't have to spend them alone. Even when you have the option to visit your parents on Christmas, it is better when you have someone come with you. It also makes holidays like Valentine's Day much more enjoyable. Obviously, you don't want to get married just so you have someone to spend Valentine's Day with, but it can be one of the many perks of being married.

You Want a Family

Having children is something many people desire. Generally, you want to be married for this to happen. When you are married before starting a family, you are giving your children two parents in a stable home. Having children with the love of your life can be one of life's most amazing experiences. If you want to start a family, there's no better reason to marry your partner.

Getting married again after being divorced can sound scary, but it is something you should consider. If you have found someone you love and want to spend the rest of your life with, then don't hesitate to propose so you can get started on a new journey together.
