Avoiding Common Wedding DisastersWith something as big as your wedding day, something is bound to go wrong. Sorry to say it, but it's true. Whether it's one of the bridesmaids falling flat on her face while she walks down the aisle or the DJ playing music completely different from what you had decided on, there's a good chance that at least one thing isn't going to go to plan. While this fact may seem overwhelming, try not to panic. Sure, there are some disasters that are unavoidable. However, there are some that are quite common, and there are things you can do to prevent them. You may not be able to prevent your drunk uncle from making an embarrassing toast at your reception, but avoiding some of these common wedding disasters can help ensure your day goes as according to plan as possible.

Someone Is Late

The wedding is at 1:00pm. You asked all members of the bridal party to arrive at 9:00am for hair and makeup. However, one of your bridesmaids oversleeps and then suddenly can't catch a cab. When there are pictures on the line, this can be a complete disaster. This can be avoided by getting the wedding party together the night before. You can stay the night at a hotel nearby to prevent any issues. That way, you will be able to ensure that everyone is up on time and has adequate transportation to the wedding venue.

Bad Weather

It is impossible to predict the weather. Let's face it, even meteorologists get it wrong a lot of the time. Because of this, it is important not to assume that everything will be sunshine and rainbows on your big day. It may be colder than usual, there might be a storm looming, or the wind may have picked up. There are some things you can do to be prepared for awful weather, even if your wedding is outdoors:

  • Have tents that are ready on a moment's notice just in case things get rainy.
  • Place heaters in appropriate areas so guests don't get cold if the temperature drops more than expected.
  • Find ways to block the wind so that you don't have any unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions.

No Wedding Officiant

You won't be able to get married if the officiant doesn't show up. If the person officiating your wedding is in your family or a close friend, you likely don't have to worry about him or her being a no show. However, if it's someone that you don't know, it's best to have someone on backup. Thankfully, this is easy. You can have a close friend or family member visit Get Ordained to become ordained to perform the ceremony just in case the officiant doesn't show up. However, it's important to check with your county clerk's office to make sure that the ordainment will be accepted by your state, city, and county.

People Not RSVP'ing on Time

It may be surprising, but it happens. Some people forget to RSVP on time. This can cause a lot of stress for the wedding couple who are trying to figure out seating and food arrangements. The best way for you to avoid this is by asking your guests to RSVP by a certain date. You should have a solid idea of who is coming within a month or two of your wedding date. Also, have a few extra tables just in case someone shows up without RSVP'ing. While this is usually considered socially unacceptable, it does happen. You don't want people being turned away from your wedding, so always plan for more people than you were expecting.

Weddings can be stressful, and even more so when things go wrong. Remember that not everything has to be perfect for it to be the best day of your life, so try to take a deep breath and enjoy yourself despite any challenges that arise on the big day.
