Fed up with traditional religion, Author Bobby Henderson wrote a letter to the Kansas State board of education in which he created his own religion, Pastafarianism. This spoof religion was written with the intent to point out the many flaws in recognizing churches.
This paper eventually gained traction and was soon turned into a book that ended up selling over 100,000 copies. The book has everything from a creation myth down to the commandments that dictate how the religion began and how it should be run. Henderson frequently parodies biblical literalists in an effort to show how even a truly ridiculous idea such as Pastafarian can become a legally recognized church.
On the first day he separated the oceans from the heavens; on the second day he created land, which wasn't enough so he added a beer volcano so that he could rest. After a drunken night he woke up with a hangover and being a little disoriented he created more seas and more land, not realizing that he had already done so. Eventually the book transitions into the commandments, which of course involve strippers and other debauchery. Needless to say, this book has created a cult like following over the last ten years.
