Ryan J. Johnston
Ordained Minister in Rancho Cordova, California
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I originally became an ordained minister online because I wanted to be able to show up for people the way they actually are, not the version of themselves they feel forced to present for a “traditional” ceremony.
I’ve spent most of my life in communities like the furry, cosplay, fantasy, & alternative lifestyle spaces, & I’ve seen how many couples want something meaningful & real, but don’t always feel safe, understood, or welcome in the usual wedding world.
Getting ordained gave me the ability to legally & respectfully officiate weddings for people who deserve a ceremony that feels like home, personal, affirming, & free to be as private or expressive as they want.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, & spent a few years living in Billings, Montana before moving to Northern California. I’m now settled in Rancho Cordova, & I’m available for local ceremonies as well as travel depending on scheduling.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
I hope to use my online ordination to create a safe, welcoming space for couples who want a ceremony that truly reflects who they are, especially those in alternative lifestyles & fandom communities who may not feel comfortable with a traditional officiant.
More than anything, I want to help people feel seen, respected, & celebrated, & give them a moment that’s meaningful, personal, & legally recognized, without judgment or pressure to fit into someone else’s idea of what a wedding “should” look like.
Religious Affiliations
Atheism, Catholicism, Charismatic movement, Christianity, Evangelicalism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Universal Life Church
Additional Information
I don’t believe love needs to fit into one specific religious box to be valid or meaningful. My approach as an officiant is inclusive & respectful, & I’m happy to provide ceremonies that are spiritual, non-religious, or tailored to your personal beliefs & values.
No matter your background, identity, or lifestyle, my goal is to create a ceremony where you feel safe, seen, & genuinely celebrated.
What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Rancho Cordova, CA wedding officiant?
What makes my ceremonies special is that they’re truly personal, inclusive, & judgment-free. I don’t believe love has to fit a traditional template, & I take the time to understand what matters most to each couple so their ceremony feels authentic & meaningful.
I’m especially experienced & comfortable working with couples from fandom, cosplay, fantasy, & alternative lifestyle communities, & I create a space where people can celebrate freely, whether they want something heartfelt & elegant, fun & nerdy, or more private & intimate.
My goal is simple: make sure you feel safe, seen, & genuinely celebrated on one of the most important days of your life.
Are there particular areas near you where you prefer to travel or have special experience?
Yes! I’m based in Rancho Cordova (Northern California) & I’m most familiar with officiating & traveling around the Sacramento area & the greater NorCal region, including the Bay Area & surrounding cities.
I also have personal roots in New Orleans, Louisiana, & experience traveling between states, so I’m open to destination ceremonies as scheduling allows, especially for couples planning fandom, fantasy, or alternative lifestyle-friendly events.
