My name is Jim Thiewes, a licensed Minnesota Wedding Officiant. I live in Belle Plaine, MN which is centrally located 30 miles south of Minneapolis. I would be honored to perform your wedding ceremony. In the late 1970’s I was ordained a non-denominational minister and performed numerous weddings over the years. If you are planning a small intimate wedding with a few friends or a casual gathering, I will do all I can to provide you the most enjoyable and memorable ceremony in celebration of your love.

We will discuss the type of ceremony you desire: non-religious, spiritual or civil. Working together we’ll create a ceremony that reflects your beliefs, personalities and lifestyles. I prefer small to medium size weddings in the Twin Cities Metro, Central and Southern Minnesota and will perform your wedding service at your home, farm, down by the creek, in the woods, VFW or Legion Club or back yard. I will be glad to perform your wedding in any unique setting. Please contact me with your ideas and what you have in mind.

I have a set of standard civil or non-religious vows as well as those of a mild religious or spiritual tone. Couples may change or add anything to them or use them to craft their own if they wish. Friends or family members can be added at certain points in the ceremony if you would like them to read specific poems or passages, sing a song or play music. I’ll work with you to find the words that convey the love and depth of feeling you have for each other.

My standard Wedding Officiant fee is $200 for a small to medium wedding if your service is performed within 50 miles or so of Belle Plaine, MN. Slightly more if I have to travel further out state. If you wish to have the service performed at my home in Belle Plaine, the fee is $125. For a small to medium size wedding, we can discuss the wedding procedure itself over the phone or email as that is usually sufficient and no rehearsal is necessary.

For men and women serving on active duty in the military service of the United States, weddings will be performed at my home in Belle Plaine for NO CHARGE. I will be glad to travel a reasonable distance from Belle Plaine to perform the service for a nominal gas donation. I am a member of American Legion Post 11 in Mankato, MN and try to accommodate our military men and women in any way possible.

I travel to perform wedding services throughout the entire State of Minnesota as well as occasionally in Iowa, Wisconsin and Arizona. Please contact me for an estimate of any additional travel expenses required.

It’s the bride and groom’s responsibility to apply at the courthouse in the county where you live for an official marriage license. The State requires that you must have two additional witnesses present during the ceremony. If you are coming to my house to get married and need witnesses, I can locate one or two for a nominal fee.
