When I became aware that you could become an ordained minister online for free, I was in college at the time and thought it may be a funny thing that I could tell people. I grew up in the Salvation Army, with my parents both being officers, so I have a bittersweet relationship with the church in general. I have respect for religion and people's faith, but feel strongly about questioning and not taking everything at face value, especially in our current social and political environment. However, as I have aged and grown, I have found many personal and spiritual benefits to being ordained through the Universal Life Church, as well as being in the company of so many other officials that I respect. I have been able to perform weddings for friends and family members, where they were in need, I was able to help. It has turned something that I thought might get a laugh at a party into something that has allowed people I care about to be bonded in a serious way.
