Michael Gerlach
Ordained Minister in Erftstadt, Nordrhein-Westfalen
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I became a reverend because I believe that God's presence is not bound to buildings. When people anonymously type their doubts into a search engine at midnight, I see that as a “digital church nave.” Here, I can listen, take questions seriously, and share hope.
Where are you from?
Europa, Germany
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
- Creating access – reaching people who would otherwise never go to church or see a pastor.
- Low-threshold pastoral care – being there when someone needs comfort or someone to talk to in the middle of the night.
- Living inclusivity – welcoming people regardless of their background, denomination, identity, or life situation.
- Trying out new forms – showing that faith and spirituality can also be alive in digital spaces.
