When it comes to marriage, not everyone believes it should be done in an old-fashioned way. The union is between the two of you and God. The rest is just legal stuff. It doesn't matter if you want to get married in a church, warehouse, or the great outdoors. It's up to you.
I understand religious upbringings even if I don't understand the rules. The insight given from God can easily be misinterpreted by humans. We are flawed, but accepting that we are flawed gives us the room to grow in God's grace.
