Rick Gilliland
Ordained Minister in Salem, South Carolina
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
You should hire me to officiate your wedding because I bring a deeply nonjudgmental, compassionate, and people centered approach to one of the most important moments of your life. I believe that love is personal, unique, and deserving of respect in all its forms. My role as an officiant is not to impose beliefs, expectations, or rules, but to support you in creating a ceremony that genuinely reflects who you are, individually and as a couple.
I am always open to conversation and welcome any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have along the way. Whether you want something traditional, modern, spiritual, secular, or completely one of a kind, I take the time to listen and understand what truly matters to you. I believe clear communication and trust are essential, and I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable being open, honest, and fully yourselves.
At my core, my goal is to help people be the best version of themselves and to celebrate love in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. I believe in letting people be people, free to choose happiness in their own way, without judgment or pressure. Your wedding ceremony should be a reflection of your values, your journey, and your love story, and I am honored to help bring that vision to life with warmth, sincerity, and respect.
When you choose me as your officiant, you are choosing someone who leads with empathy, inclusivity, and genuine care, ensuring your ceremony feels personal, heartfelt, and truly yours.
Where are you from?
I am a South Carolina native, born and raised in the Upstate. I was born in Greenville and grew up just outside of Mauldin. I spent most of my adult life in Laurens County before relocating to Oconee County in 2024. Having deep roots across the region, I value community, connection, and the relationships that shape where we call home.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
What I hope to achieve with my online ordination goes far beyond the title itself. My purpose is to be a beacon of light in moments when people feel lost, unheard, or overwhelmed by life’s challenges. In a world that can often feel divided, judgmental, or indifferent, I want to stand as a reminder that compassion, understanding, and genuine human connection still matter. My ordination represents a commitment to serving others with empathy, integrity, and an open heart.
I hope to use this role to give a voice to those who feel they do not have one, people who have been overlooked, misunderstood, or silenced by circumstance, fear, or judgment. I believe every person deserves to be seen, respected, and valued, and I want to help create spaces where people feel safe to express who they truly are. Whether through officiating meaningful ceremonies, offering guidance, or simply listening without judgment, my goal is to uplift others and help them feel less alone.
Being ordained allows me to lead with love rather than authority, and with understanding rather than rules. I want to help people find hope during dark times, celebrate their most joyful milestones, and remind them that their story matters. Ultimately, I hope my ordination enables me to positively impact lives by spreading kindness, encouraging authenticity, and helping others discover their own strength, purpose, and happiness.
