Rogelio Hernandez
Ordained Minister in Clarksville, Tennessee
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I chose to become an ordained minister online because I saw a real need for inclusive, affirming spiritual leadership—especially for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Too often, I witnessed loving couples being denied the right to marry simply because of their gender identities. I saw same-sex parents struggle to find someone willing to baptize their child. I heard stories of families being turned away when trying to plan funerals for LGBTQIA+ loved ones because their identities didn’t "fit" within traditional religious spaces.
That didn’t sit right with me.
I wanted to be someone who could say yes when others said no—to help celebrate love, honor life, and welcome everyone without judgment. Becoming ordained online gave me a path to offer that support directly, without needing to go through institutions that might exclude people based on who they are or who they love.
At the heart of it, I became a minister because I believe everyone deserves dignity, compassion, and spiritual care—especially those who have been hurt or shut out by the very systems that were meant to serve them.
Where are you from?
I am from San Antonio, TX, but currently reside in Clarksville, TN.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
With my online ordination, I hope to create a safe, welcoming space for people who have often been pushed to the margins—especially those in the LGBTQIA+ community. My goal is to provide meaningful spiritual support for those who’ve been told they don’t belong in traditional religious settings.
I want to officiate weddings that celebrate all kinds of love, baptize children into communities that embrace them fully, and lead funerals that honor the lives of people exactly as they lived. I want to stand in the gap where others might hesitate—to be a voice of love, respect, and inclusion when it matters most.
Ultimately, I hope to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most. If I can help even one person feel seen, accepted, and spiritually supported, then I know I’m doing what I was called to do.
