Jason David Jacobs
Ordained Minister in Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I walk a Norse Pagan spiritual path, but my ministry is founded upon respect for all sincere religious and spiritual traditions.
I believe that there is an ultimate Creator—a divine source greater than any single name, tradition, culture, or understanding. Throughout history, people have encountered and understood the Divine in different ways. Where one tradition may speak of God, another may speak of many gods, spirits, ancestors, or a universal divine presence.
I do not believe these differences necessarily make one path true and another false. Instead, I see the world's religious traditions as different reflections of a greater whole—different aspects of the Divine understood through the experiences, cultures, and perspectives of humanity.
My own path leads me toward the gods and traditions of Norse Paganism, but I recognize that another person's path may lead somewhere very different. I believe that sincere faith, regardless of tradition, can ultimately be an expression of humanity's relationship with the same greater source.
For that reason, my ministry welcomes people of all faiths, as well as those who do not identify with a particular religion. I do not believe it is my role as a minister to tell another person how they must understand the Divine. My role is to respect their beliefs, honor the path they have chosen, and serve them with dignity.
When officiating weddings and other ceremonies, I strive to create a service that reflects the beliefs and values of the people involved. A Christian couple should be able to have a ceremony that honors their Christian faith. A Pagan couple should be able to honor their gods and traditions. An interfaith couple should be able to bring their traditions together, and a nonreligious couple should be able to celebrate their commitment without being asked to profess beliefs they do not hold.
There are many paths by which people seek meaning, wisdom, love, and the Divine. I have chosen mine, and I respect the right of others to choose theirs.
Where are you from?
I am currently in Albuquerque, NM but originally from Virginia Beach, VA, but while I was in the military, I had the chance to travel quite extensively and meet alot of different cultures.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
I would like to show people that just because our religions are called something different, that in the end, we are not necessarily all that different.
