Rev. Robert Tony Lopez
Ordained Minister in Bronx, New York
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I originally became ordained to officiate a friend's wedding. What I didn't expect was how naturally it would grow into something much bigger. Much of my personal and professional life has centered around supporting people through moments of transition, grief, celebration, and crisis—especially within the LGBTQ+ community. Over time, I realized that pastoral care wasn't just something I did during ceremonies; it had become a thread running through the way I show up for people every day.
Where are you from?
I grew up in the Hudson Valley of New York and now call New York City home. No matter where I've lived, community has always been at the center of my life. My work has taken me across the country supporting nonprofits, but New York will always be home.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
My hope is simply to continue showing up for people. Whether it's officiating a wedding, supporting someone through grief, celebrating life's milestones, or offering a listening ear during a difficult season, I want to help create spaces where people feel seen, respected, and cared for. My ordination has always been less about a title and more about a commitment to serve with compassion, curiosity, and dignity.

What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Bronx, NY wedding officiant?
I believe the best ceremonies feel personal. Every couple has their own story, values, traditions, and sense of humor, and I enjoy helping create a ceremony that reflects who they really are instead of following a script. Whether it's deeply spiritual, lighthearted, or somewhere in between, my goal is for everyone to leave feeling like they witnessed something genuine—not just a ceremony, but a meaningful moment in two people's lives.
