Laszlo Fitos
Ordained Minister in Southampton, England
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I had been interested reading and studying the Bible since l was 17 years old. I was deeply inspired and touched by the messages of the Bible and became involved with the local Lutheran and Reformed church's work including: supporting and counseling homeless people with drug and alcohol problems, working with children and young people. organizing children’s activities and teaching in Sunday schools. I completed the Child Evangelism Fellowship Course in 2001. After my first child was born, I worked in a psychiatric hospital in Hungary for two years where I had the opportunity to develop my role as activities co coordinator and run spiritualty groups. I became interested in different religious beliefs and the relationship between the human mind and religious behavior. In 2001 l enrolled to the Lutherian University of Budapest to study on the Theology MA program. In 2012 l completed my MA dissertation titled: Delivering Spiritual Care to those Experiencing Mental Health and Addictions. My research and writing included Historical perspectives on mental illness including religious approaches, crisis management, alcohol and drug use, and a critical discussion on the potential mis diagnosis of psychiatric patients. I explored the healing of faith through Jesus, and the fear of death according to Luther and Faith. I also used the spiritual message of Matthew chapter 25, verse 31-46 which I argue is fundamental for the integration of those experiencing mental health problems into Christian congregations. I also included a number of cases studies from the real situations of others learned through my placement and workplace. I am most interested in Religious beliefs within mental health. I also have a keen interest in the original languages of the Bible and studied Greek and Hebrew for 5 years and Latin for 3 years which helped me to deeper explore and interpret bible verses. I resumed my studies in Hungary 2011 however In 2013, just prior to finishing and due to personal circumstances, I relocated back to the UK. l had been interested working with people who are in needs, including: supporting and counselling homeless people with drug and alcohol problem, working with children and youth, organizing children’s activities and teaching them. I was studying alongside my work at Winchester University on Postgraduate level.
