Michelle Garris
Ordained Minister in BROOKLYN, New York
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I became an ordained minister online during the COVID era in 2020, a time when the world felt uncertain and many people, including myself, were searching for stability, healing, and peace of mind. That season pushed me to look inward and deepen my spiritual grounding. Becoming ordained was part of my own healing journey, but it was also driven by a desire to support others who were struggling with fear, loss, isolation, or emotional overwhelm. I wanted to be someone who could offer compassion, listening, encouragement, and hope during a time when people needed it most. That experience reinforced my belief in service, empathy, and meeting people where they are.

What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
Through my online ordination, I hope to provide support, encouragement, and a sense of peace to others. I also use my ordination to officiate wedding ceremonies for all couples, including same-sex couples and vow renewals, with the goal of creating meaningful, inclusive, and compassionate ceremonies that honor each couple’s journey. Above all, I strive to be a compassionate presence, helping people feel seen, heard, and supported through empathy, healing, and service.
