Tamara McKay
Ordained Minister in Makawao, Hawaii
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I became an ordained minister to serve at the intersection of faith, creativity, and human connection. As a professional photographer working closely with couples, families, and communities, I was often present for life’s most meaningful moments. Becoming ordained allowed me to not only document those milestones, but also to stand alongside people in a more intentional, spiritual role—particularly in celebrating love through marriage. My calling has always extended beyond ceremonies. Through photography, storytelling, and faith-based journalism, I seek to inspire reflection, hope, and unity. Ordination gave me a way to honor sacred spaces, uplift spiritual narratives, and share stories that point people toward purpose, beauty, and truth. At its core, my decision was rooted in faith and a desire to be of service—to walk with others during meaningful moments, to tell stories that matter, and to remain open to where God might lead that path.

Whether officiating weddings, honoring holy places, or sharing faith-inspired stories, my goal is to uplift others, encourage spiritual reflection, and walk a path of service guided by faith and intention.

Additional Information
I was baptized Catholic, but my spiritual life is centered on a personal relationship with God rather than strict religious affiliation. I believe faith is expressed through actions, honesty, and compassion. While I respect religious traditions, I also recognize that spirituality can be experienced through art, nature, and reflection, guided by biblical principles and moral responsibility. For me, faith is something practiced daily, not proclaimed for appearance.
What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Makawao, HI wedding officiant?
My faith is sincere and personal, not performative. I believe creativity, storytelling, and honest expression are meaningful spiritual practices that can bring healing, reflection, and a deeper sense of peace. Through these, people often reconnect with faith in ways that feel authentic and grounded.
Are there particular areas near you where you prefer to travel or have special experience?
I am based on the island of Maui, Hawai‘i. I am available to serve anywhere on Maui and am willing to travel throughout the State of Hawai‘i. I am also open to traveling to other states with advance notice to allow for proper planning. For destinations beyond Maui, travel expenses would need to be covered.
