Leslie Shortey
Ordained Minister in Jackson, Mississippi
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
You know, I didn’t become an ordained minister online through Universal Life just to add another title to my name. I did it because I wanted to meet people right where they are—with their faith, their doubts, their beliefs, and their pain. Life has a way of testing us, and I wanted to be someone who could speak to the living, not just about living—but about meaning, purpose, and the space in between.
As a Master Life Coach and minister, I talk a lot about that little dash between the day we’re born and the day we leave this world. That dash is everything—it’s our choices, our stories, our lessons, our love, our legacy. It’s what we do with that dash that defines us.
Too often, we only talk about death when it’s too late. But I believe the real conversation should be about how we live—how we forgive, how we heal, and how we show up for ourselves and each other. Changing the narrative around death means reminding people that life isn’t measured by how it ends, but by how deeply we’ve lived it.
Universal Life gave me a way to embrace people of all walks and beliefs. My purpose is to remind each person that their dash still has meaning—and that it’s never too late to live it on purpose.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
What I hope to achieve is simple—but powerful. I want to awaken people to the truth that their lives still matter, no matter what season they’re in. I want to help them see that healing is possible, purpose is real, and that they are not defined by their past or their pain.
My goal is to create spaces where people feel safe enough to face themselves, strong enough to grow, and inspired enough to live fully in their dash. Whether I’m speaking, coaching, or simply listening, I want every person I encounter to walk away with a renewed sense of peace—and a reminder that they still have time to make their dash mean something.
If I can help someone find clarity in their chaos, faith in their uncertainty, and love in their loss, then I’ve done what I was called to do.
