I originally became ordained to perform my sister’s wedding. Neither she, nor my brother in law are specifically adherents of one particular faith, but it was important to create a formal ceremony and temporal milestone for the occasion. My wonderful brother in law also wanted to have some commitment vows for being a father to my niece. Understanding how the people involved see life, themselves, and their partners is the most critical part of making a ceremony that is relevant to the couple’s beliefs, lifestyle, and commitment to one another. Nobody attends their wedding in ill fitting attire. Why should anyone make a life long commitment to another person with ill fitting words which do not match their feelings, belief, and heart felt intentions. Your wedding is about YOU and YOUR PARTNER, and should be tailored to your authentic selves. Side notes: I am a fairly skilled singer if musical tonality it’s important to your ceremony, have a Master of Science degree in Psychology, and renew my wedding vows with my partner every year.
