Shanika Ward
Ordained Minister in Oxford, Mississippi
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
My decision to become an ordained minister online was rooted in a lifelong passion for advocacy and a desire to be a voice for the voiceless. I’ve always believed in standing in the gap for those who are unheard, unseen, or misunderstood. Ministry, to me, is not just about sermons or ceremonies—it’s about service, healing, and giving people hope, dignity, and space to be heard.
At the same time, I had a deep, personal yearning to grow in my understanding of Christ. I wanted to move beyond what I’d been taught and truly dive into a personal relationship with Him—unfiltered, unboxed, and sincere. Becoming ordained was a step toward exploring my faith more intentionally, while also opening doors to help others do the same.
I also saw ordination as a way to connect with people from diverse spiritual paths. I’m endlessly curious about different faiths, and I believe that when we make space to learn from one another, we grow deeper in compassion and wisdom. Whether someone is seeking spiritual guidance, community, or simply asking questions, I wanted to be someone they could come to without fear of judgment.
Becoming an ordained minister online wasn’t about formality—it was about access, connection, and answering a call that had been echoing in my heart for years.

What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
With my online ordination, I hope to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and spiritually nourished—regardless of their background, beliefs, or where they are on their journey. I want to use this platform not just to officiate weddings or ceremonies, but to offer meaningful connection, counsel, and care to those who may not have access to traditional ministry.
My goal is to be a bridge—between faith and doubt, between people and purpose, between questions and compassion. I hope to inspire thoughtful conversations about spirituality, foster mutual respect among different religious traditions, and serve as a resource for anyone seeking healing, hope, or just someone to walk alongside them for a while.
Ultimately, I see this as part of a larger calling: to advocate for the marginalized, amplify the voices of the unheard, and reflect the love and wisdom of Christ in everyday ways. Online ordination gave me a flexible, accessible path to begin that work—and I intend to make the most of it.

What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Oxford, MS wedding officiant?
What makes my ceremonies truly special is the intentional care I bring to every couple’s unique love story. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all weddings—every ceremony I officiate is deeply personal, thoughtfully crafted, and rooted in the values, traditions, and hopes of the people standing before me.
I take the time to get to know each couple: what brought them together, what they envision for their future, and what moments matter most to them on their special day. Whether you want a ceremony that’s spiritual, interfaith, secular, traditional, or something completely your own, I’m committed to making it feel authentic and meaningful.
As an ordained minister, I proudly serve people of all races, faiths, cultures, genders, and sexual orientations. Love knows no boundaries, and neither should ministry. I honor and celebrate the beautiful diversity of every couple and approach every wedding with an open heart, deep respect, and a genuine desire to affirm and uplift your union.
My goal is to create a sacred, joy-filled space where you feel fully seen—and where your love is celebrated without condition or exception.

Additional Information
Beyond officiating weddings and offering spiritual guidance, my ministry is deeply connected to service and advocacy. At the heart of my calling is a desire to meet people where they are—spiritually, emotionally, and practically.
That’s why I founded Empower Advocacy Oxford, Incorporated, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underserved, at-risk, and vulnerable individuals in our community. Through this work, I help people locate vital resources—from housing and healthcare to food access and mental health support—while also offering a listening ear, emotional care, and advocacy for those who often feel invisible in larger systems.
My ministry isn’t confined to a pulpit or ceremony—it lives in everyday interactions, crisis support, and community empowerment. Whether I’m officiating a joyful wedding, comforting someone in grief, or helping a family find stability, my mission remains the same: to serve with compassion, dignity, and love.
I’m here for the big moments and the quiet struggles—and I count it as a sacred honor to walk alongside those in need, both spiritually and practically.
