Opalin Hubay Pickens
Ordained Minister in Bakersfield, California
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I decided to become an ordained minister in order to perform weddings and other ceremonies for those who might not have a lot of representation. Namely, those who are Pagan, LGBT+, and/or Non-Religious.
Where are you from?
I originally grew up in Chula Vista, CA. Due to circumstances, I ended up moving to Bakersfield in the spring of 1998. I've lived in Bakersfield ever since.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
I hope to perform weddings and other ceremonies for people who likely don't get a lot of representation. My hope is to provide a much-needed service to those who are Pagan, LGBT+, and/or Non-Religious. If successful, I plan to go back to school to become a licensed therapist. With this, I hope to be able to provide professional counseling in addition to ceremonial services as a minister.
Religious Affiliations
Atheism, Neopaganism, Universal Life Church, None
Additional Information
I'm an eclectic Pagan, and I'm willing and happy to learn about specific rites and ceremonies for specific traditions to meet your needs. This said, I'm also happy to keep a ceremony strictly secular for those who are Non-Religious.
What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Bakersfield, CA wedding officiant?
As someone who is nonbinary, pansexual, and Pagan, I offer an authentic experience to those looking for a wedding ceremony that is Pagan and/or LGBT+ friendly. As someone with loved ones who are Atheist, I can keep ceremonies secular, yet joyful and meaningful to everyone present.
Types of Service Offered
Marriages, Same-Sex Marriages, Renewal of Vows, Handfastings
Additional Information
I'm very new at performing ceremonies of any kind, so please bear with me as I find my footing at this time. While I plan to expand beyond weddings and do house blessings, funerals, and etc. at some point, I want to be comfortable with doing weddings, first, before I delve into those things.
I'm available Mondays, 8am-6pm (meaning that 6 pm is the latest I'll do a wedding). Due to my day job, I'm only available Tuesdays-Saturdays from 5pm-6pm (meaning that 6 pm is the latest I'll do a wedding).
Part of my fee is paying for transportation to and from the wedding site. I'll need an Uber/Lyft or taxi to get around, as I currently don't drive. If, instead of an Uber/Lyft or taxi, you can arrange for someone reliable to give me a ride to the wedding site and back home after the wedding, I can reduce the fee.
Finally, I want to make clear that I don't take checks of any kind. I do, however, take money orders if you're unable to play online either via PayPal or through an invoice via email.
