Francisco P Dumanig
Ordained Minister in Hilo, Hawaii
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
Becoming an ordained minister allowed me to help couples formalize their commitment to one another in a meaningful and legally recognized way. It’s a simple but powerful act, officiating a wedding, that aligns deeply with both my personal and professional journey.
After completing my PhD research on intermarriages in Southeast Asia, where I focused on language choices and accommodation strategies among intercultural couples, I developed a deeper appreciation for the diverse dynamics that shape relationships. Throughout my research, I had the privilege of speaking with both married and unmarried couples, learning about their journeys, their challenges, and their hopes.
Those conversations left a lasting impact on me and sparked a genuine interest in supporting couples through academic insight and in a more direct, celebratory way. Officiating weddings felt like a natural extension of that work, a chance to be part of something joyful and meaningful, while honoring the cultural and linguistic diversity I’ve spent years studying.
Where are you from?
I’m from Hilo Hawaii, where I currently live. I was born and raised in the Philippines and later made Hilo my home. My journey from the Philippines to Hawaii has deeply shaped who I am, blending my roots with the unique multicultural spirit of the islands.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
Through my ordination, I hope to officiate more weddings and play a meaningful role in the lives of couples as they begin their journey together. My goal is to not only solemnize their union but also to inspire them to nurture a strong, loving, and peaceful family life. I believe that every marriage ceremony is a powerful reminder of love, commitment, and hope—and I’m honored to help create that moment for others.
