Morgan Abbott
Ordained Minister in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I'm culturally a seventh-generation Mormon, but resigned from the religious institution in July 2013. I found comfort in continuing my family's practices of having a close relationship with nature. Throughout the years, I developed my own nature-based rituals that were inspired by my ancestors and my life experiences. I'd like to share what I've learned and be a resource for those experiencing difficulties finding comfort in spirituality during the highs and lows of life.
Where are you from?
I'm from many different places. I was a military brat, living and traveling in many communities extensively from a young age. However, my roots are in the Intermountain West, namely Utah.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
I hope to bridge the gap between former LDS members (exmormons) and their cultural connection to nature-based ceremonies. I'm a botanist by profession and want to help build a healthy, consensual relationships within the plant and people communities through non-appropriative nature-based rituals.
Religious Affiliations
Atheism, Druidism, Mormonism, Other
Additional Information
I was raised LDS and I am very familiar with regional and international cultural norms and how they differ from personal and doctrinal practices. I personally identify as a 'Mormon Pagan', but I'm comfortable offering services that range from a scientific atheistic/agnostic to reinterpretation of Mormon practices with an inclusive, feminine, nature-based perspective.
I'm currently undertaking Isle of Wight Order of Druids' Birch Grove course and I have completed Forest and Nature Therapy Guide Training through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs.
What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a Santa Fe, NM wedding officiant?
I'm a botanist and understand the importance of recognizing the everyday relationships we have in our world and hold space for sacred celebration. I'm here to assist you with honoring your relationship in one of the most significant days of your life.
Are there particular areas near you where you prefer to travel or have special experience?
I love the desert and finding sacred spaces in the mundane world. I can meet you on a remote mountain top that is hours away from the nearest town, in a public park with incredible and unique natural features that are tucked away, or in a backyard with your grandmother's roses. Sacred places are everywhere, let me help you find yours.
