Rev. Dr. Alan M Wellman
Ordained Minister in PASADENA, California
Why did you originally become an ordained minister online?
I originally became ordained through the Universal Life Church as a way to affirm my calling outside of traditional gatekeeping. At the time, I felt drawn to offer spiritual support, officiate weddings, and hold space for people in moments of transition—but I hadn’t yet found a denominational path that fully honored my inclusive, justice-centered understanding of ministry. The ULC offered a way to say "yes" to that inner call while I continued discerning my long-term direction. Since then, my journey has deepened through formal theological study, spiritual practice, and service in both mainline Protestant and New Thought traditions. That original online ordination was the first public step of many—an act of trust in the Spirit’s leading, and a declaration that everyone deserves a minister who truly sees them.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois—born and raised in the heart of the Midwest. Since 2017, I’ve called Pasadena, California home, where I continue my work in ministry, spiritual care, and community building.
What do you hope to achieve with your online ordination?
My hope is to create sacred space for individuals and communities who have often been excluded or wounded by traditional religion—especially LGBTQ+ people seeking spiritual connection, healing, and celebration of their full identities. With a heart rooted in process theology and interfaith compassion, I aim to serve at the intersection of justice, love, and evolving faith. My online ordination empowers me to minister across boundaries—officiating weddings, offering spiritual care, and guiding rituals that honor diverse beliefs, life experiences, and understandings of the Divine. I believe Spirit is ever-unfolding, and so is our call to show up with presence, authenticity, and grace.
Religious Affiliations
Christian Science, Methodism, Protestantism, Unitarian Universalism, Universal Life Church
Additional Information
My spiritual path is both rooted and evolving. I hold a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Care from Mercer University, and I’ve served in both the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church (USA). I am an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church and the International Metaphysical Ministry, and a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner with the Centers for Spiritual Living. While I honor the Christian tradition I was formed in, my ministry is interfaith and inclusive—drawing from Christian, metaphysical, and mystical traditions. My theology is grounded in process thought, New Thought, and an unwavering belief in the inherent divinity and dignity of all people, especially those historically excluded from spiritual belonging. I believe Spirit is dynamic, unfolding through love, relationship, and community. My affiliations reflect that—grounded in tradition, open to transformation, and always led by compassion.
What do you think makes your ceremonies special as a PASADENA, CA wedding officiant?
Every ceremony I craft is a living love poem—rooted in the couple’s unique story, elevated with heartfelt ritual, and performed with intention, grace, and a touch of theatrical sparkle. As a minister, artist, and spiritual coach, I see weddings as sacred theater: a moment where the Divine gets to take center stage in the form of two people choosing each other, boldly and joyfully. My ceremonies are inclusive, affirming, and deeply personal—especially for LGBTQ+ couples who deserve to be celebrated fully and beautifully. With compassion as my guide and creativity as my tool, I create experiences that are emotionally resonant, musically alive when desired, and spiritually rich. I don’t just read words—I embody them. Every guest should leave feeling like they witnessed not just a ceremony, but a moment of magic.
