I have been Pagan for 36 years and I have performed 17 unions, two naming ceremonies and plenty of fortunes. I have a BS in Mental Health and Human Services from the University of Maine at Augusta. Growing up in the mountains of Pennsylvania, there was no one that I knew that was Pagan. At least they didn't admit it due to the fact that this is a very racist area. Therefore, I was self trained. I had very little interaction with local children outside of school and spent much of my time alone out in the woods. This allowed me all kinds of time to learn Wicca, which was was popular enough that I could go to the local mall and find books and other supplies. Before I was able to leave the area, because a friend of mine got his driving licence and a car. Before the friend with car happened, I used to scour the deep dark recesses of the local library for information. This was per-internet of course. Sometimes, I feel that this was a better way to learn. I really had to work at it and all the while I knew that I could be severely hurt or maybe even killed for my interest. That being said, I will go to great lengths to learn a system of beliefs just to be sure that I'm doing a service correctly.
