Angela Maria Berasa-Owens
Ordained Minister in Charlotte, North Carolina
About Me:
I believe in love and I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I believe we should have the basic human right to love whomever we chose. Marriage should not be looked upon as an outdated institution. Yet it should be a public declaration of a couple’s devotion to each other as well as a solemn promise to uphold whatever vows you choose to share. This is an important event and one not to be taken lightly. I would love to be an integral part of your special day!
I wish I would have done this years ago! But it’s never too late. My religious background is varied and diverse. I was baptized Episcopalian and raised Catholic in New York City. When we moved to the South in the mid 70’s we realized there were no integrated Catholic churches around so my mother chose AME Zion. I became a student of other faiths and found myself reading an encyclopedia of religions as well as trying to decipher the Bible at a young age. We floated between AME Zion, Southern Baptist, and non-denominational churches for a while. Then my mother found the Mormon faith. I was baptized at 17 just ahead of entering the military. I had several negative experiences with that faith in the years following. I denounced Mormonism and was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness a few years later. As my daughter grew became a teenager, she expressed less interest in the “rules and regulations” surrounding that faith and I slowly began to withdraw from their activities.
Currently, I am “technically” still a Witness, as I am not disfellowshipped – just disassociated. I do not attend any organized religious meetings on a regular basis but will go to the annual Memorial observance from time to time. I consider myself a spiritual person who believes in God as the omnipotent higher power and his Son, Jesus Christ. I also believe in the power of the Universe, the angels, and other cosmic forces that are around us daily. With my new ordination, I do plan on reigniting my knowledge in the Bible so that I can be better prepared to offer my clients the services they desire.
